Herbert is a boxy crew-neck sweater with a relaxed fit, oversized sleeves, and a distinctive colorwork effect created using slipped stitches.

The sweater is worked from the top down in a combination of knit, purl, and slipped stitches, with two strands of yarn held together throughout. The slip-stitch pattern is worked from charts.

First, the back yoke is worked flat. The shoulders are shaped using German Short Rows.

Then the front yoke is worked flat in two separate pieces. Each shoulder is shaped with German Short Rows, while increases are worked to form the neckline. The two front shoulder pieces are then joined at the neckline.

The front and back pieces are sewn together at the shoulders using mattress stitch. The body is then joined in the round at the underarms and worked according to the chart.

The sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked top down in the round using Magic Loop. The folded neckline is worked last.

The recommended yarn combination is non-superwash wool: Fritidsgarn held together with Tynn Peer Gynt giving the sweater good durability, elasticity, and shape retention.
