Otto Beanie - Free Pattern

OTTO BEANIE
A short beanie fitted just above the ears. Knitted with 2 strands of Medium weight yarn in 2 different colors held together for a melange look. Use your favorite Medium weight yarn and colors to create a unique beanie. If you are feeling adventurous try playing with multiple colors, stripes, different types of yarn or even intarsia technique. You can do whatever you want as long as the measurements fit.

Workflow
The beanie is knit back and forth in garter stitch with 2 strands of yarn until the work reaches the width corresponding to your size. Then the sides of the beanie are stitched together with mattress stitches. The top of the beanie is worked in the round while decreasing, using Magic Loop technique.

PATTERN
Step 1
Cast on 35 (39) 42 sts with 2 strands of yarn held together.
Knit 42 (45) 47 cm (or until work fits the circumference of your head) in garter stitch. BO.

Step 2: Sew together

Fold the work.  Place the Cast on edge (A) and the Bind off edge (B) next to each other with the right side facing outwards. Sew together with mattress stitches starting from the brim. Weave in loose ends.

Step 3: Top
Knit in the round with Magic Loop
Pick up sts from the right side of the work. Pick up 1 st in all knit-rows throughout the round. Pick up an even number of stitches.

Work 3 rounds like this:
Rnd 1: *k2tog* till end of round = the number of stitches are halved
Rnd 2: K all stitches
Rnd 3: *k2tog* till end of round = the number of stitches are halved

Step 4: Fasten off
Cut the yarn but leave an approx. 25 cm long tail. Thread the needle with the tail and pull the yarn through all the sts on the needle while sliding the sts of the needle. Pull together tightly and fasten off with a few stitches on the wrong-side.
Fold the brim, and your beanie is ready :)

We would love to see your finished beanie.
